Sport for All: Building Bridges

TAFISA is pleased to announce the 22nd TAFISA World Congress will be hosted by the Turkish Sport for All Federation in Antalya, Turkey, from 10th to 14th November 2011 under the theme 'Sport for All: Building Bridges'.  More information will be posted on this site as it becomes available.  Please also see the Congress website, www.tafisaworldcongress2011.org for more information.

 

History

Trim and Fitness (the predecessor to TAFISA) Conferences began in Oslo, Norway, in 1969 and took place every two years.  Biennial TAFISA World Congresses have since been in:

  • Bordeaux – France 1991,
  • Chiba – Japan 1993,
  • Netanya – Israel 1995,
  • Penang – Malaysia 1997,
  • Limassol – Cyprus 1999,
  • Cape Town – South Africa 2001,
  • Munich – Germany 2003,
  • Warsaw – Poland 2005,
  • Buenos Aries – Argentina 2007, and
  • Taipei – Taiwan 2009

The objectives of the Congresses are:

  • To promote Sport for All and physical activity
  • To provide a platform for debate, exchange of experience, networking etc.
  • To showcase research and development in the global Sport for All and physical activity sector
  • To further develop of global strategies
  • To provide a meeting place for members, stakeholders, partners, etc.

Congresses typically run for 4 to 5 days and attract over 200 participants from 40 to 50 countries.  This includes TAFISA Member organizations, governmental and non governmental sport bodies, stakeholders and partners, media, etc.
