22nd TAFISA World Congress, 18th to 24th October 2011, Antalya, Turkey PDF Print E-mail

TAFISA is proud to announce the 22nd TAFISA World Congress under the theme ‘Sport for All: Building Bridges’.  Despite originally being planned for Australia, TAFISA is delighted that the Congress will now be hosted by the Turkish Sport for All Federation in Antalya, Turkey from 18th to 24th October, 2011.  Part of the Congress will be the TAFISA General Assembly, scheduled for 20th October. 

The Congress will focus on how Sport can practically influence unification of all forms; between people of different races, cultures, levels of ability, levels of development and socio-economic status.  

Antalya - Turkey's principal holiday resort in the Mediterranean region – is an attractive city with shady palm-lined boulevards, a prize-winning marina and a picturesque old town.  The region around Antalya offers sights of astonishing natural beauty as well as awesome historical remains.  With average day time temperatures of around 25˚C and warm Mediterranean waters, late October, early November is the perfect time to visit Antalya!

The anticipated fee for the Congress, including accommodation, social program, Congress materials, etc. is €400.  Please keep your eyes open for the official invitation to the Congress which will be released shortly!

TAFISA is pleased to invite you to participate in World Walking Day 2010. On 2nd and 3rd October, people from all around the world will participate in all kinds of walking events run by their local organisations. With millions of participants every year, the day promotes inclusiveness and Sport for All and physical activity, and is fun!

The day provides an opportunity to build on existing events or realise innovative ideas!  This year, for the first time, Indonesia is planning to have more than 10 million participants involved in WWD.

Countries, cities and communities participating in WWD will receive access to a members only area of the TAFISA website where they can access WWD material, including a detailed guidebook, the logo, example flyers, etc.

TAFISA VIPS Program Moving Forward with United Nations Support and a Home in Tanzania! PDF Print E-mail

Following on from the meeting between the UN Secretary General, Mr Ban Ki-moon, his Special Advisor on Sport for Development and Peace, Mr Wilfried Lemke, TAFISA President, Dr. Lee Kang-too and TAFISA Secretary General, Mr Wolfgang Baumann, TAFISA is delighted to advise of the formal support of the UN for TAFISA’s VIPS Program in Africa (Volunteer Initiative for Peace through Sport).

The letter received from Mr. Wilfried Lemke announces that “This  initiative  is  an  excellent  example  of  using  Sport  for  All  as  a  driving  force  to  raise awareness, education and engagement for volunteerism and social change…  With  its  focus  on  Sport  for  All  in  Africa,  the  “TAFISA  VIPS  Programme”  will  be  an important  contribution  in  the  education  and  training  of  volunteers  to  create  a  well coordinated volunteer system to support the development of Sport for All in Africa and the engagement through sport towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.”  For the full content of the letter, please see the link below.

UNITED NATIONS LETTER OF SUPPORT

TAFISA is also thrilled to announce that at a meeting between TAFISA Secretary General, Wolfgang Baumann, Sethi Kamuhanda, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Culture and Sports and Leonard Thadeo, Director of Sports Development and TAFISA Vice President Africa (see photo), the Tanzanian government has offered the Malya Sports Institute to be the physical home of the VIPS Program.

Finally, the VIPS Program has been officially launched with a generous initiative from TAFISA President, Dr. Kang-too Lee, and his organisation, the Korean Sport for All Council, of the donation of 200 soccer balls to sports departments of governments of underprivileged countries in Africa (see photo).

Turkey CLC a Great Success! PDF Print E-mail

The Turkish Sport for All Association hosted the second TAFISA International Certified Leadership Course in Sport for All this year from 9th to 14th July 2010. The course was held at Ege University in Izmir, amidst beautiful surrounds and in very hot temperatures! More than 24 participants from more than 12 countries attended the course, and positive feedback was received from all.

TAFISA extends is gratitude to the Turkish Sport for All Association, including its President, Dr Erdal Zorba, and his colleagues, Dr Mutlu Turkmen and Dr Birol Dogan, for what was a very successful course. Additionally, TAFISA thanks all the participants for a productive and interesting course. Their contributions were outstanding!

The next International CLC will be held in Argentina in November 2010. Please watch this website for more information as it becomes available.
