TAFISA welcomes World Karate Confederation and World Ssireum Federation and as new Members
(08.02.2010) During very fruitful and constructive meetings, agreed on future joint activities in the field of Sport for All with both World Karate Confederation (WKC), represented by Founding Presient, Dr. Fritz Wendland, and the World Ssireum Federation (WSF), represented by President, Myungsik Yoon. This includes both WKC's and WSF's intention to join the newly designed TAFISA International Centre on Traditional Sports and Games in Busan as well as sharing experiences and programs in the area of qualification of Sport for all leaders.
WKC has 80 member organisations worldwide and was founded 1989. To learn more about WKC and their programs and events, please visit the website www.wkc-org.net.
WSF was only founded in 2008 but has rapidly grown to include 30 member organisations worldwide. For more information on WSF and coming events, please visit www.worldssireum.org.
The new WKC membership reflects the strong tendency of international sport organizations also working in the field of Sport for All to apply for TAFISA membership. This falls in line with TAFISA policy and also documents TAFISA's role as a globally recognized organization.

Preparing for the new TAFISA International Centre on Traditional Games and Sports
(08.02.2010) The City of Busan, Korea, has shown great interest to become the host venue for the new TAFISA International Centre on Traditional Games and Sports. This was the major result of a meeting between the Busan Mayor, Nam-sik Hur, and the TAFISA Executive Board headed by President Lee Kang-Too on January 22 in Korea's second largest metropolis on the south coast.
The Centre will be the first in the field of Traditional Sports and Games promotion worldwide and is expected to receive UNESCO endorsement. Busan city is worldwide recognized as a strong supporter of the international Sport for All Movement, particularly in the field of Traditional Games and Sports since it successfully hosted the 4th TAFISA World Sport for All Games in 2008. According to the TAFISA President, "Busan would be an outstanding venue for this new TAFISA initiative."

13th World Sport for All Congress, 14th to 17th June 2010, Jyvaskyla, Finland
(08.02.2010) TAFISA is delighted to announce, on behalf of and thanks to its close cooperation with the IOC, the 13th World Sport for All Congress to be held from 14th to 17th June 2010 in Jyvaskyla, Finland. The World Sport for All Congress is held every two years since 1985, and is a forum for exchange of experiences and good practises between the actors of the Olympic family, sport for all and sport organisations, the academic world and institutional partners.

Deutscher Turnerbund (DTB) Presents TAFISA Innovation Award
(28.12.2009) During the DTB’s General Assembly on 21st November 2009, it was TAFISA’s pleasure to present to the president of the DTB, Mr. Rainer Brechtken, the TAFISA Innovation Award. It has been forwarded to the DTB for its outstanding “International Deutsches Turnfest” that took place this year with 60.000 participants in June in the German city of Frankfurt am Main. The Turnfest can be rightly referred to as the world’s largest one week Sport for All event and is open for participants from all over the world. The next Turnfest will take place in May 2013.

TAFISA and ENGSO to Sign Memorandum of Understanding
(28.12.2009) TAFISA Secretary General, Mr Wolfgang Baumann, and Vice President for Europe, Dr. Ewa Suska, met on 14th December in Helsinki with the European Non-Government Sports Organisation to discuss the potential cooperation between the two bodies into the future. The meeting was fruitful and a draft MoU is now being finalised with the intention to formalise it in early 2010. TAFISA expresses its gratitude to ENGSO President, Mrs Birgitta Kervinen and her colleagues for such a warm reception and productive meeting.
TAFISA Triple AC meets WHO Healthy Cities in Helsinki
(28.12.2009) In a workshop on 13th and 14th December in Helsinki, cohosted by the Finnish Sport for All Association, WHO Baltic Region Healthy Cities Association and TAFISA, the potential for cooperation between TAFISA’s Active Cities – Active Communities – Active Citizens Program, the Triple AC, and the World Health Organisation’s Healthy Cities program was discussed and developed. With active participation from around 30 participants from TAFISA and municipalities in the Baltic region, a roadmap for the cooperation has been developed, with the intention to formalise this cooperation early in 2010. This will strengthen both TAFISA’s Triple AC program, and its relationship with WHO.
2009 TAFISA Magazine – The Guidelines for Sports Clubs for Health (SCfH) Programs
(28.12.2009) It is TAFISA’s pleasure to announce the publication the most recent TAFISA Magazine, The Guidelines for Sports Club for Health Programs published in cooperation with HEPA Europe (The European Network for the Promotion of Health Enhancing Physical Activity) and Kunto, the Finnish Sport for All Association. The Sports Clubs for Health (SCforH) program was established by TAFISA in recognition of the importance of sports clubs in the Sport for All movement, and was initiated with a workshop in Helsinki, Finland in February 2008.
TAFISA extends its gratitude to each of these experts, and especially to TAFISA Board Member and Kunto Secretary General, Mr Jorma Savola, for his tireless efforts to realise this magazine. Members should receive a hardcopy via post shortly, and a pdf copy can be downloaded by clicking here .

TAFISA and UN to Join Forces
(09.11.2009) On the occasion of the IOC Congress, the TAFISA President also met with the United Nations Secretary General, Mr Ban Ki-moon, and his Advisor, Mr Wilfried Lemke. It was agreed to strengthen the bonds between the UN and TAFISA by identifying joint areas of activity, particularly with respect to a Sport for All Development Project in Africa. It is anticipated that TAFISA will again meet with the UN to discuss future cooperation early in 2010 in New York, USA.
